Seventeen members and one guest were present during the SIA El Dorado monthly meeting on September 11, 2017 at the El Dorado Civic Center. President Gail Gomez called the meeting to order.
Nancy Reddinger was inducted as a new member. Brenda Burk introduced guest Tricia Powell.
Sharon Mangels provided an update on the current balance of our club’s BCC Endowed Nursing Scholarship.
Judie Storandt and Janett Doile presented information on Soroptimist’s global Dream It, Be It program. The goal of the program is to offer career support for girls though education and access to role models. Our club’s event is planned for April 2018.
Brenda announced November 15 is the application deadline for the annual Live Your Dream Award. Our club awards $1000 to a woman who is the financial head of her household and a student pursuing an undergraduate degree or vocational skills training certificate. Gail noted the South Central District meeting is in Hutchinson, KS, October 6-8. Seven members will attend.
Donations of women’s sweats were collected to be given to Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital for women treated in the Emergency Room who are in need of clothing to return home.
Hostesses were Susan Adams, Brenda Burk and Judie Storandt.
Members attending not mentioned were Sue Beattie, Bonnie Buckman, Julia Davis, Darla Deaton, Ginger Glenn, Debi Laforge, Sue Reynolds, Joni Sanders, and Edith Waugh. The meeting was adjourned with the Soroptimist Pledge.
